Cancers We Treat

A comprehensive list of the types of cancers we treat.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women with about 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 13%) developing invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. About 43,250 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2022 from breast cancer. There have been significant advances in radiation therapy over the past 10 years that have shortened the overall duration of radiation treatments and technologies that reduce radiation to the heart and lung. At CRO, we offer respiratory gated radiation delivery for breast cancer and prone breast cancer treatments which both reduce the amount of heart and lung exposed to radiation, reducing your long term risk of toxicity.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and the second leading cause of cancer related death in the US for men. Early detection is the key to cure and Clearwater Radiation Oncology encourages all men over the age of 50 and men between 40-50 with risk factors to get an annual PSA screening. Dr. Shah at CRO is the only physician in Pinellas county offering ALL radiation treatment options for prostate cancer including SBRT, HDR brachytherapy, Prostate seeds, IMRT and IGRT.

Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related deaths in the US. At Clearwater Radiation Oncology we counsel every patient on the importance of smoking cessation and provide them resources to be successful. Early stage cancers can be treated at Clearwater Radiation Oncology with SBRT with over a 90% long term control rate. For more advanced lung cancers we offer IMRT, IGRT, and respiratory gated treatment which enable your physician to deliver higher doses of radiation to the cancer while minimizing the exposure to surrounding normal tissues.

Skin Cancer

Basal and Squamous cell carcinomas of the skin are the most common cancers in America. We encourage all patients to utilize sun protection. Oftentimes skin cancers of the facial regions may require surgery causing cosmetic and functional deficits. An alternative is electron beam radiation therapy which is a painless non-invasive treatment for skin cancer with over 90% cure rate with minimal cosmetic deficits.

Gynecological Cancers

Dr. Shah at Clearwater Radiation Oncology has extensive experience in the management of Gynecological cancers as he was previously co-director of the AHMG Image Guided brachytherapy program for Gynecological cancers. These cancers are complicated to treat and require coordination with medical oncology and specialized procedures to deliver HDR brachytherapy directly into the uterus, cervix, and vagina.

Gastrointestinal Cancers

Cancers of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, rectum, and anus are usually treated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy delivered together. Because there are many critical structures around these sites we utilize IMRT, IGRT, and respiratory gated treatment delivery to deliver the highest dose of radiation while sparing your surrounding normal tissues. At CRO we will also coordinate your radiation treatments with your medical oncologist to ensure you received the best care possible.
