Prostate Seed Implants

Prostate Seed Implants

Prostate seed implants involve the delivery of radiation directly into the prostate, also known as brachytherapy.  The seed implant can be permanent or temporary.

Permanent seed implants involve the insertion of radioactive seeds directly into the prostate that emit radiation slowly over several months.

Temporary seed implants involve the use of a High Dose Rate (HDR) Iridium source that delivers an intense dose of radiation over 10-15 minutes directly into the prostate.  Patients do not leave the procedure with any radioactive sources inside their bodies.

Dr. Shah is the only radiation oncologist in Pinellas County offering HDR brachytherapy for the management of prostate cancer.
