Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)

Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)

Dr. Shah has been utilizing SBRT in the management of cancer patients since 2004 and is the most experienced physician in Pinellas County in the treatment of prostate cancer with SBRT.

Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) utilizes multiple high intensity radiation beams to precisely target tumors with very high doses of radiation. SBRT is very effective for the treatment of prostate cancer, lung cancer and kidney cancer.

SBRT can also be used to treat tumors that have spread to the bone, lung, liver, and lymph nodes.  For patients with less than 5 metastatic sites the use of SBRT has been demonstrated to stop the cancer from spreading further.

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) uses many precisely focused radiation beams to treat tumors and other problems in the brain, neck, lungs, liver, spine, and other body parts.

It is not surgery in the traditional sense because there’s no incision. Instead, stereotactic radiosurgery uses 3D imaging to target high doses of radiation to the affected area with minimal impact on the surrounding healthy tissue.
